King Salami & the Cumberland 3 | See King Salami on Myspace
The King howls like Screaming Jay Hawkins with Bo Diddley chasing his coat-tail and with Andre Williams trying to offer up some of his bacon fat. This man never stops shakin' and twistin' and groovin' while the Cumberland 3 (former members of the Ulcers, Chinese Lungs and Parkinsons) play their own branded mix of vintage rockabilly desperate rock'n'roll and a bit of soul with fire, energy, gusto and fun!

Florence Joelle's Kiss of Fire | See Kiss of Fire on Myspace
Florence Joelle is a songstress with a style all her own and a subconscious colonised by vintage American tunes who sings of things that go bump in the night. With a voice somewhere between Peggy Lee and Edith Piaf and a band that fuses Link Wray guitar slashing and rockabilly rhythms to great effect.

Minnesota Voodoo Men | See Minnesota Voodoo Men on Myspace
Whilst the Minnesota Voodoo Men can't speak English and have absolutely no idea where Minnesota is, they are in fact rock'n'roll at its absolute best. Reports of their live shows talk of them playing a great Yardbirds cover (in Japlish, or possibly Engrish) and stage acrobatics to leave you breathless. The band's music is based on the classic rhythm'n'blues influenced groups of the mid-1960s, like the formerly mentioned Yardbirds, Petty Things, Rolling Stones, etc. But from all we've heard they use their influences as a starting point to do nothing less than entertain, making the audience hold their breath and wonder whatever could happen next.

Curlee Wurlee! | See Curlee Wurlee! on Myspace
Playing a mix of 1960s oriented organ-driven beat, surf and fuzzed-out garage-punk consisting they describe themselves as a “sexy Frenglish beat fuzz sensation”, seeing as their songs are kind of a bit French and a bit English, but totally rock and roll. This is the most original garage bands of the last decade both for their music and due to their positioning themselves in the left wing with their lyrics and political positioning. Their new LP features 17 smashing hits, average length around two minutes, with a powerful blend of garage, soul, pop and mature though juvenile self-written compositions. -
Loud Squirt | See Loud Squirt on Myspace
Skuzzy punk’n’roll in the style of the New Bomb Turks is the order of the day with these Dutch guys. They don’t attempt to reign in the energy at all during a frenetic and action packed live show. Spitting out songs like a machine gun you get a full on tsunami of fast and raw garage punk rock’n’roll, but a singer that still keeps a soulful vibe, that makes me think that they’re soon to be underground legends.

Flaming Stars | See The Flaming Stars on mySpace
New York's Village Voice says The Flaming Stars "manage to conjure the Jesus and Mary Chain, '50s swamp rock, and nights spent guzzling cheap wine and leaning unsteadily against a jukebox". Even when strings start popping and kick drum pedals are falling apart, something good remains. Keyboards straight from the nearest haunted house, a mud-spattered bassline, or Smokin’ Joe flying over his low-slung drum kit, you’ll find yourself reminded of Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers, The Stranglers, Richard Hell and Iggy Pop. -

Jolenes | See The Jolenes on Myspace
Four ladies, one banjo, one fiddle, one double bass and one guitar make up The Jolenes, a good-time hillbilly/bluegras outfit in matching frocks with a serious love of Hank Williams, The Carter Family, Tony Joe White, Charlie Feathers... indeed, for all things southern and rocking.

Walter Lure | See Walter Lure on Myspace
When Jerry Nolan and Johnny Thunders quit the New York Dolls in 1975 they got ex-Television bassist Richard Hell to start a new band, adding Walter Lure on guitar. And so the Heartbreakers are born. With Billy Rath replacing Hell when he started the Voivoids they relocated to London where they join the Sex Pistols on their aborted 1976 tour and released the “Chinese Rocks” single before putting out their debut album, L.A.M.F. on which Walter wrote/co-wrote some of the finest Heartbreakers tunes. Walter Lure is also known for The Waldos, whose 1995 album "Rent party" was produced by Andy Shernoff (of The Dictators). A legendary figure of the New York punk rock scene, this is a VERY rare trip outside of the NYC area!

Johnny Throttle | See Johnny Throttle on Myspace
Formed just a few short months ago (Febuary 2008) by various lowlife has been and never weres from the Parkinsons, Shakin’ Nasties, Urban Shocks, Jackoffs and Menace, JohnnyThrottle play real rock’n’roll the way it was meant to be – snotty, moronic and straight to the point. They bang out a furious 20-minute (smoking ban-friendly) set of short and catchy Modern Lovers meet Slaughter and the Dogs meet the Electic Eels inspired mini-operas with the kind of incompetent teenage enthusiasm which only the borderline middle-aged can truly muster.

Mighty Atomics | See The Mighty Atomics on Myspace
Like a mid-Atlantic nuclear weapon detonation, this young Dublin trio mix the raw power of their heroes The Sonics and Link Wray with the nervous energy of early British beat-groups to create a wild, pounding and twanging rock’n’roll sound. Singing songs about girls, werewolves, Bolivian presidents, satan and, most importantly, girls...the Mighty Atomics know how to deal with the complex issues that young people have to deal with today, yesterday and perhaps tomorrow. If you like your rock'n'roll music raw, simple and catchy, these dimwits are the band for you!

Flying Over | See Flying Over on Myspace
These Frenchies were personally chose by Thee Vicars to appear on the first volume in their Holy Twist compilation of garage-punk bands "Get Wyld!" - so you can take that as a guarantee that it's a band worth seeing. Influenced by the likes of the TV Killers, the Kids, Sex Pistols, Vibrators, Saints, Stooge you're sure to find yourself witnessing a top class, crazy and frantic display of punk rock action.

Eyelids | See The Eyelids on Myspace
This is a band that embodies the entire history of outsider rock’n’roll. They are one of those bands that totally ignore fashion and simply bang out simple, primal, feral beats that take rock’n’roll back to its roots without sounding like a boorish rehash, but sounding fresh and passionate. They’ve been compared to Rocket From The Crypt and The Cramps – yes they’re that good. This is is why we still buy records of new bands, why we check out those Myspace pages, for the thrill of finding a band as exciting as this. Hearing the Eyelids for the first time is like hearing the future from the past, like watching one of those great sci-fi movies from the ’50s where everything is clean and fresh, yet totally familiar. It looks like you know what’s happening but there’s something new going on, there’s something unfathomable, an element of the now inhabiting the sound of original rockabilly. This is a band that’s just having fun - and you will too
Venue: The Snooty Fox, N5
